By train
There is an excellent train service which runs from the airport to
Fuengirola (timetable below). Once you arrive at Fuengirola you can either
take a taxi to the apartment for 15 euros or alternatively take a bus
number 19 (buses every 30 minutes) to Marbella
and get off at Calahonda. From here you can take a local taxi or take the
mini train
By Car
Once you arrive at Malaga airport and catch up with your bags you need to go down to the basement
level within the arrivals area to collect your car. As you leave the car
park you need to follow signs for Cadiz and you will see a San Miguel factory ahead
of you. At this
point you need to be in the inside lane closest to the San Miguel factory as
you will soon be turning off following the signs for Cadiz. You will soon be joining the dual carriageway
leading to the motorway and you need to filter into the traffic and keep your
eye open for the motorway sign (blue signs) for Benalmadena which
you will come to in less than one mile. The exit is off to your right immediately
you pass the BMW garage. Once you join the motorway you will travel for about
10/15 minutes following signs for the N340 towards Fuengirola. This is the coast
road and is the pretty route which hugs the beautiful coast line (don’t take
the toll road option at Fuengirola). As
you make your way along the N340 you will pass through Fuengirola and you will see a rather large shopping mall on the right hand side called Miramar. After you leave Fuengirola you travel on for
about another 5 miles (about 5 to 10 minutes) and you need to keep your
eyes open for the Riveria exit which
is just after the a rather large sign for Miraflores (again
on your right).
Go past the Riveria junction and keep you eyes open as you are leaving at
the next junction signposted Calahonda.
As you approach the Calahonda junction you will see
a red Cespa branded garage on
your right so you need to start to slow
down as you are about to exit the N340 at this junction. As you exit from the N 340 you
will see a rather large sign saying Sitio
De Calahonda, travel on about 50 yards up the road to the
next roundabout.
At this roundabout you are going to go almost straight across (its actually
3rd right) into Avenue De Espana. You now start going uphill towards the apartment,
first passing some bars and restaurants on the right hand side (fondly
called the ‘strip’ by locals). As the bars tail off you will be taking a right turn into Calle Don Jose De Orbaneja.
You will know you are going the right way if you follow signs for Club Del Sol and La Siesta
golf. Carry on up the hill through a series of bends for
about 400 yards and then you will see La Siesta golf course on your left - this is the
golf course that the apartment overlooks. You will see a rather large sign
on the right for Club Del Sol and
you are now about 300 yards from the apartment. Keep on up the hill you
will see a bar
on the left called Dos
Leones, carry on another 200 yards and you will see Colinas De Calahonda on your
left hand side, just past the junction. The entrance is about 50 yards up
the hill with the entrance just after a green sign on the pavement for La
Fuente bar and bistro. Turn in left here are see if you can get a parking space,
if so park up and look for Escala 3 (block 3). If the car park is full drop
off all your people and bags etc and park on the road underneath the block -
there is always loads of spaces here if the main car park is full.
Escala (block) 3 has a lift to save lugging the bags upstairs (our
apartment is 36A - floor 6 on the lift button). If the lifts don't work it
usually means someone has not closed the outside door properly so you may
have to go down and check all the doors are closed.
